The Malopolska Centre of Biotechnology at Jagiellonian University, a leading European academic research hub known for interdisciplinary life science innovation and advanced biotechnology research, is recruiting an Assistant Professor to join an NCN SONATA BIS-funded project investigating bacteriophage host-range evolution.

About the Role

The successful candidate will contribute to research exploring interactions between Klebsiella pneumoniae and bacteriophages using genomic epidemiology and experimental microbiology approaches. The position focuses on understanding bacterial–phage co-evolution through genomics, phylogenetics, and computational biology.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research in microbial genomics and phage evolution
• Perform large-scale genomic and metagenomic data analysis
• Develop computational tools and reproducible workflows
• Present findings at scientific meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals
• Support project development and mentor research team members
• Collaborate with international partner laboratories

Qualifications & Skills Required

• PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, evolutionary biology, or related quantitative discipline
• Experience analysing biological datasets using computational or bioinformatic approaches
• Programming proficiency in Python, R, Bash, or similar languages
• Familiarity with version control systems such as GitHub
• Interest or experience in phage biology, microbial genomics, or host–microbe interactions
• Strong scientific publication or presentation record preferred
• Excellent English communication skills
