The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) at Harvard Medical School is seeking a highly motivated Associate (Postbaccalaureate Researcher) to join the Baym Lab in Boston, Massachusetts.

The Baym Lab is recognized for its innovative research exploring microbial evolution, antibiotic resistance, bacteriophage biology, and genetic engineering. The laboratory combines experimental and computational approaches to understand how microorganisms adapt and evolve in changing environments.

As part of a multidisciplinary team, the selected candidate will collaborate with computational biologists, evolutionary biologists, and microbiologists to advance research focused on the genetics and biology of mobile genetic elements such as bacteriophages and plasmids.

Ky Responsibilities

  • Developing and optimizing experimental protocols.
  • Engineering microbial systems using genetic and synthetic biology techniques.
  • Conducting research on bacteriophages, plasmids, and other mobile genetic elements.
  • Collaborating with researchers across multiple disciplines.
  • Supporting ongoing projects and generating novel research findings.
  • Analyzing experimental data and contributing to scientific publications.
  • Participating in scientific discussions and research presentations.

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Evolutionary Biology or a closely related field.
  • Previous research experience involving microbial mobile genetic elements, including bacteriophages, plasmids, or related systems.
  • Experience in microbiology or molecular biology laboratories.
  • Knowledge of microbial genetics and evolutionary biology.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research integrating computational and experimental methods.
