INSERM Chair: Bioconvergence for Health in AI to Embedded Synthetic Biology
The French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (Inserm) is inviting applications for an INSERM Chair in Bioconvergence for Health: AI-Embedded Synthetic Biology.
The successful candidate will join the Systems Engineering and Evolution Dynamics (U1338) / ELiS Lab, hosted in collaboration with Sorbonne Université, and will contribute to the development of the Paris Biofoundry.
The appointment is initially offered as a 4-year fixed-term contract, with the possibility of tenure in the Inserm Research Directors personnel at the end of the contract.
The Chair will establish a new research group focused on the convergence of automated synthetic biology and computational biology to generate fundamental discoveries and develop new medical and therapeutic applications.

- Phage, bacterial and yeast engineering
- Synthetic biology and systems biology
- Artificial intelligence and deep learning
- Computational biology
- Antibiotic resistance and antimicrobial discovery
- Drug discovery and biosensing
- Metabolic engineering and biosynthesis
- Biofoundry technologies
- Synthetic phages and engineered biological systems
- Machine-learning-driven biological design
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate is expected to:
- Establish and lead an independent research group.
- Develop an internationally competitive research program.
- Supervise PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and technical staff.
- Secure competitive research funding.
- Develop national and international collaborations.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary research within the ELiS Lab and Paris Biofoundry.
- Contribute, where appropriate, to teaching in Synthetic Biology and Computational Biology at Sorbonne Université.
- Produce high-quality scientific publications and research outputs.
- Participate in scientific editorial and peer-review activities.
- Support open science and FAIR data-management principles.
Qualifications & Skills Required
Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent qualification and have research experience consistent with an EURAXESS R3/R4 researcher profile.
