Internship Microbiology Phage Research
Phagos

Gain hands-on experience in bacteriophage research while contributing to the fight against antimicrobial resistance. Phagos, an innovative biotechnology company developing bacteriophage-based solutions for animal health, is offering a 4–6-month Lab Internship in Suresnes, France.

This internship provides an exciting opportunity for Master’s students or recent graduates to work on cutting-edge research exploring the interactions between bacteriophages and antibiotics, as well as investigating novel phage delivery methods.

The successful candidate will join the research team to study how antibiotics influence bacteriophage activity and determine whether phage-antibiotic combinations can work synergistically against bacterial pathogens. In addition, the intern will contribute to early-stage studies assessing phage stability following spray and nebulization processes, helping generate valuable data for future therapeutic development.

This position offers practical laboratory experience in microbiology, bacteriophage research, experimental design, and data analysis within a multidisciplinary scientific environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and conduct laboratory experiments evaluating phage-antibiotic compatibility.
  • Assess the impact of selected antibiotics on bacteriophage viability and activity.
  • Perform bacterial susceptibility testing and growth inhibition studies.
  • Investigate phage stability and recovery following spray or nebulization processes.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and experimental documentation.
  • Analyze research data and contribute to technical reports and recommendations.
  • Assist with routine laboratory operations and microbiological experiments.

Qualifications Required

  • Are currently pursuing or have recently completed a Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Veterinary Sciences, Biological Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Have basic laboratory experience in microbiology.
  • Possess a strong interest in bacteriophages, antimicrobial resistance, and animal health.
  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and strong laboratory organization skills.
  • Can work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Have a minimum English proficiency level of B1.

Bacterial co-infections can present significant challenges for antimicrobial treatment. In such infections, targeting one bacterial pathogen may alter the microbial environment and potentially influence the growth or persistence of another pathogen. This PhD project will investigate how phage therapy can be optimised to treat bacterial co-infections. The research aims to improve understanding of phage–bacteria interactions […]
