Lab Technician/Lab Manager In Phage Biology & Microbiology
The University of Florida is seeking an OPS Lab Technician/Lab Manager to join the Nemudryi Lab at its Main Campus in Gainesville, Florida. The Nemudryi Lab investigates the molecular arms race between bacteria and the viruses that infect them i.e. bacteriophages. Its research focuses on discovering novel anti-phage immune systems and understanding the host–phage interface using bacterial genetics, biochemistry, structural bioinformatics, and phage biology.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing laboratory projects and may have opportunities to develop independent research activities. Responsibilities include:
- Performing DNA and RNA extraction
- Conducting PCR
- Performing gel electrophoresis
- Carrying out molecular cloning
- Expressing and purifying proteins
- Culturing bacteria and bacteriophages
- Performing phage infection experiments
- Conducting plaque assays
- Performing biochemical assays
- Analyzing experimental data
- Presenting findings during laboratory meetings
- Maintaining accurate experimental records
Laboratory Management Responsibilities
In addition to research activities, the Lab Technician/Lab Manager will help ensure the laboratory operates efficiently. Responsibilities include:
- Ordering laboratory reagents and consumables
- Tracking deliveries and orders
- Maintaining laboratory inventories
- Managing common reagents, media, buffers, and laboratory stocks
- Preparing standard laboratory stocks
- Maintaining shared equipment
- Keeping laboratory spaces organized
- Supporting laboratory safety and compliance
- Helping onboard and train new laboratory members as experience develops

Qualifications
Applicants must have:
A Bachelor’s degree in:
- Biochemistry
- Molecular Biology
- Microbiology
- Or a related field
