Senior Scientist Microbiology
AQ Biotech Ltd

AQ BioTech is looking for a Senior Scientist & Quality Lead to join in a unique dual-impact role. This permanent position combines advanced laboratory research (50%) with quality system leadership (50%), offering an exceptional opportunity to influence both scientific discovery and operational excellence. The Senior Scientist & Quality Lead will be a key driver of their phage-biosensor development, while also designing and implementing a fit-for-purpose Quality Management System (QMS) tailored to a high-growth diagnostics startup. This work will directly support the translation of cutting-edge research into reliable diagnostic solutions with global healthcare impact.

Role as Senior Scientist

  • Act as a core contributor to AQ BioTech’s phage-biosensor platform
  • Design, develop, and optimize bioassays for biomarkers related to infectious diseases and cancers
  • Perform preparation and analysis of clinical and non-invasive samples
  • Lead and manage in-vitro evolution of phages
  • Conduct complementary testing using traditional microbiological and analytical methods
  • Interpret experimental data and contribute to scientific publications, reports, and technical documentation
  • Collaborate closely with international clinical, academic, and industry partners

Role as Quality Lead

  • Build the QMS: Design and implement a scalable, fit-for-purpose Quality Management System aligned with industry best practices (e.g., ISO 9001, GLP, GCLP)
  • Define Core Processes: Establish and document critical workflows, from sample handling to data integrity and traceability
  • Quality Documentation: Develop and maintain the quality manual, SOPs, validation protocols, and controlled documentation systems
  • Drive Continuous Improvement: Lead internal audits, risk assessments, and corrective actions
  • Champion Quality Culture: Embed a proactive “Quality First” mindset across the scientific and operational teams

Education & Experience

  • Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences discipline
  • Strong research track record in bioassay development and clinical sample measurement
  • Solid background in microbiology and applied laboratory research
  • Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001, GLP, GCLP or similar)
  • Demonstrated ability to build quality frameworks from the ground up, not just maintain existing systems
