McGill University Opens Teaching Assistant Positions for SEA-PHAGES Course
The Department of Microbiology and Immunology at McGill University is inviting applications for Teaching Assistant positions for the internationally recognized SEA-PHAGES course (MIMM 390). The Science Education Alliance-Phage Hunters Advancing Genomics and Evolutionary Science (SEA-PHAGES) program is a globally known initiative focused on bacteriophage discovery and genomics research. The course provides undergraduate students with hands-on laboratory experience in phage isolation, characterization, and analysis.
Teaching Assistants will support second- and third-year undergraduate students enrolled in the SEA-PHAGES laboratory course. The course focuses on bacteriophage discovery research and practical microbiology techniques conducted through in-person laboratory sessions.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide students through laboratory experiments and research techniques
- Explain concepts related to microbiology, virology, and phage genomics
- Demonstrate laboratory procedures and technical methods
- Grade assignments, lab reports, presentations, quizzes, and laboratory notebooks
- Support students through office hours and email communication
- Promote safe laboratory practices and research ethics
- Participate in team-building and collaborative learning activities
Qualifications & Skills Required
- Be enrolled as a Master’s or PhD student at McGill University
- Have a background in Microbiology and Immunology or related biological sciences
- Possess laboratory experience in microbiology or bacteriophage research
- Demonstrate strong communication and mentoring skills
- Be comfortable teaching and supporting undergraduate students in laboratory settings
