Postdoctoral Fellow in Phage & Airway Immunology at the University of Kansas Medical Center
The University of Kansas Medical Center is hiring a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Zamora Lab within Internal Medicine. This role focuses on airway inflammation, respiratory pathogens, mucosal immunity, and bacteriophage-based therapies.
The selected candidate will investigate how chronic and repeated airway inflammation alters immune responses to respiratory pathogens. The research has direct relevance to diseases such as:
- Cystic Fibrosis
- Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
- Chronic respiratory infections
- Airway inflammatory disorders
The role also includes evaluating emerging bacteriophage-based therapies in inflamed airway environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and conduct independent research experiments
- Study airway inflammation and host-pathogen interactions
- Work with primary human airway epithelial cultures
- Use murine in vivo models
- Analyze molecular, cellular, and omics datasets
- Maintain accurate electronic lab notebooks
- Prepare manuscripts, figures, and tables
- Contribute to grant writing
- Present findings at conferences and seminars
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
Qualifications & Skills Required
- PhD, MD, or equivalent doctoral degree in: Immunology, Microbiology & Cell Biology, Related biomedical sciences
- Experience in research design and scientific data analysis
- Experience with sterile laboratory techniques
- Airway epithelial models (ALI cultures)
- Experience with immune cell biology, respiratory infection models
- Experience with flow cytometry, RNA-seq analysis.
- Experience in advanced imaging methods, bacteriology and virology methods.
