Post-Doc Biotechnology Microbiology
Institute of Physical Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences IPC PAS, Poland

A postdoctoral research opportunity is now available at the Institute of Physical Chemistry Polish Academy of Sciences (IPC PAS), located in Warsaw, Poland. The position is offered within the Living Materials Group (Team 2), led by Jan Paczesny, under a project funded by the National Science Center (NCN).

Bacteriophages are gaining global attention as next-generation antimicrobials, especially in the fight against antibiotic resistance. However, their poor stability under environmental stress has significantly limited their large-scale application. This project directly addresses that challenge by developing advanced polymer-based excipients to enhance the stability, shelf-life, and functional performance of bacteriophages.

Objectives of this Research

  • Design novel polymeric formulations for phage stabilization
  • Establish structure–property–function relationships
  • Expand research to:Virus-like particles (VLPs) and Protein-based systems

Key Responsibilities

  • The selected candidate will play a central role in both experimental and analytical aspects of the project to independently design and conduct laboratory experiments
  • Investigate stability of bacteriophages, proteins, and VLPs under stress conditions
  • Perform biophysical and structural characterization of phage–polymer systems
  • Analyze and interpret complex datasets
  • Maintain detailed research documentation
  • Publish findings in high-impact scientific journals

Qualifications & Skills Required

  • PhD in: Biology Biotechnology Chemical Sciences Biophysics or related fields
  • Strong scientific publication record
  • Hands-on experience with: Bacteriophages, proteins, or virus-like particles and microbiological and/or biochemical laboratory techniques
  • Knowledge of:
    • Polymer synthesis and nanostructures
    • Colloidal systems and self-assembly
    • Advanced biophysical techniques
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • High motivation and scientific curiosity

How to Apply

  • Submit your application via email to: rekrutacja@ichf.edu.pl
  • Email Subject (Mandatory to mention):“Recruitment no 13/2026”
  • Required Application Documents: Application letter, Curriculum Vitae (CV), PhD certificate, Academic degree diplomas, and a list of scientific achievements (publications, patents, conferences, etc.)
