Postdoctoral Research Position in Phage Engineering
CY Cergy Paris Université is inviting applications for a 24-month Postdoctoral Research Position in the ERRMECe Laboratory to contribute to the PHAGOBOOST project. This exciting opportunity focuses on developing genetically engineered bacteriophages to combat biofilm-associated Staphylococcus aureus infections.
The project aims to establish innovative bacteriophage engineering strategies that improve antibiofilm activity while preserving phage fitness. Researchers will work with a unique collection of clinically relevant Silviavirus bacteriophages currently used in compassionate-use programs in France, providing a strong translational pathway toward next-generation phage therapeutics.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary consortium that includes:
- ERRMECe Laboratory, CY Cergy Paris Université
- Centre International de Recherche en Infectiologie (CIRI), Lyon
- Hospices Civils de Lyon (HCL)
- BioCIS (CNRS, Université Paris-Saclay & CYU)
The position is funded through the PHAGOBOOST project under CY Generations, supported by the French Government’s France 2030 – Investissements d’Avenir initiative.
Key Responsibilities
The selected researcher will:
- Identify genetic determinants for stable bacteriophage genome engineering.
- Develop and implement advanced phage genome editing techniques.
- Engineer bacteriophages while maintaining biological fitness.
- Evaluate antibiofilm activity of engineered phages using relevant experimental models.
- Analyze experimental data and contribute to scientific publications.
- Participate in collaborative research activities and project reporting.
- Present research findings at conferences and scientific meetings.
Qualifications & Skills Required
- A PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Microbiology, Biological Engineering, Synthetic Biology, or a closely related discipline
- Strong expertise in microbiology and molecular microbiology techniques.
- Demonstrated research excellence through peer-reviewed publications.
