Research Fellowship in Medical & Health Sciences at FCiências.ID, Portugal
FCiências.ID is inviting applications for a Research Fellowship (BI) under the research project PHAMOR – proPHAge MOdel for cycle Regulation (2024.17128.PEX). The fellowship is funded by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) and will be conducted at the BioISI – Biosystems and Integrative Sciences Institute, Faculty of Sciences, University of Lisbon, Portugal.
The PHAMOR project focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms regulating bacteriophage life cycles, particularly the transition between lysogenic and lytic states. The selected fellow will contribute to advancing knowledge of prophage regulation and host-phage interactions in bacterial systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Construction of prophage mutants
- Investigation of prophage transcriptional dynamics using qRT-PCR and RNA-SeqStudy of regulatory proteins involved in lysogenic and lytic phage cycles
- Analysis and interpretation of molecular and genomic datasets
- Collaboration within a multidisciplinary research environment
Qualifications & Skills Required
- Master’s degree in Biochemistry or a closely related field
- Academic research experience in microbiology and molecular biology
- Previous work involving Helicobacter pylori or related bacterial systems
- Experience in generation of bacterial gene mutants
- Experience in research involving Helicobacter pylori
- Experience in Studies on bacteriophage lysogenic and lytic cycle regulation
- Next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis
- Molecular genetics and microbial physiology
