Research Laboratory Technician in Recombinant Products Facility
The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is seeking a Research Laboratory Technician to join its Recombinant Products Facility (RPF) in Sydney. This full-time, two-year fixed-term opportunity offers the chance to work within a sophisticated research environment focused on the production, purification, and quality control of biologics, including proteins, plasmid DNA (pDNA), nucleic acids, and bacteriophage.
The Recombinant Products Facility operates state-of-the-art laboratory equipment and maintains an ISO 9001-accredited Quality Management System, supporting high-quality research and pre-clinical studies.
Key Responsibilities
As a Research Laboratory Technician, you will:
- Perform In-Process Control (IPC) and Quality Control (QC) analyses for biologics, plasmid DNA, and protein products.
- Conduct analytical testing to assess product quality and quantity.
- Coordinate analytical requirements across multiple research projects.
- Maintain analytical tracking systems and quality control documentation.
- Operate and maintain specialized laboratory equipment.
- Assist with laboratory user training and technical support.
- Work within an ISO 9001 Quality Management System and regulated laboratory environment.
- Prepare scientific reports and interpret analytical results.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams to support biologics production and quality assurance.
Qualifications & Skills Required
Applicants should possess:
- A degree in Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Knowledge of molecular biology techniques such as:
- Cloning
- Plasmid characterization
- Gene expression analysis
- Experience performing analytical assays for protein and/or plasmid DNA quality assessment.
- Familiarity with HPLC and other analytical laboratory techniques.
- Experience maintaining and operating specialized laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (ISO 9001) and/or Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
- Excellent laboratory documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary research teams.
- Experience with Protein purification, Plasmid DNA production, Microbial fermentation, Cell culture, Tangential Flow Filtration (TFF), Process chromatography, Biologics manufacturing, Scientific data analysis and reporting will be considered advantageous
