Research Technician II in Microbiology & Immunology
The University at Buffalo, is recruiting a Research Technician II to support microbiology and bacteriophage-related research within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, working in the laboratories of Dr. Yolanda Huang and Dr. Ryan Hunter.
About the Role
The position involves supporting laboratory research exploring bacterial physiology, bacteriophage interactions, and microbial metabolism in host-associated environments. The selected candidate will assist with experimental design, laboratory workflows, and data generation contributing to ongoing microbiology and microbiome studies.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate and maintain high-resolution LC-MS instruments (qTOF)
• Assist with experimental design and laboratory investigations
• Conduct bacterial and phage cultivation under aerobic and anaerobic conditions
• Perform molecular biology and microbial genetics techniques
• Support purification of proteins, lipids, and bacterial cell wall components
• Contribute to omics-based analyses and sequencing workflows
• Assist with data interpretation and preparation of research outputs
Qualifications & Skills Required
• Associate degree or formal training in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field
• At least three years of relevant laboratory experience (or equivalent training)
• Practical experience in microbiology or biochemical research environments
• Familiarity with high-resolution LC-MS instrumentation is advantageous
• Experience with bacterial or phage cultivation
• Background in molecular biology techniques and analytical chemistry (e.g., HPLC)
• Knowledge of sequencing or bioinformatics approaches
• Strong organizational, communication, and teamwork abilities
