Baylor College of Medicine is seeking a motivated Research Technician II – Molecular Virology & Microbiology to join TAILOR Labs, a leading research center dedicated to advancing the science and therapeutic applications of bacteriophages to combat multidrug-resistant bacterial infections.
Researchers work on both natural and engineered bacteriophages, investigating their molecular mechanisms, therapeutic potential, and clinical applications. The laboratory also contributes to biotechnology innovation through Baylor College of Medicine’s growing ecosystem, including Helix Park.

- Perform routine laboratory research experiments
- Conduct molecular biology and microbiology techniques
- Assist with bacteriophage discovery, purification, and characterization
- Support bacteriology research projects
- Maintain bacteriophage libraries and laboratory collections
- Collect, analyze, and document experimental data
- Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks using Benchling
- Order laboratory reagents, consumables, and equipment
- Participate in laboratory meetings and scientific discussions
- Collaborate with principal investigators and research team members
- Perform additional laboratory duties as assigned
Qualifications & Skills Required
Applicants should possess:
- Bachelor’s degree in a Basic Science or closely related discipline or
- Four years of relevant experience in place of a bachelor’s degree
- Approximately one year of laboratory or research experience
- Educational background in Microbiology or related life sciences
- Strong interest in bacteriophage biology and microbiology
- Willingness to learn new molecular biology techniques
- Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment
- Passion for scientific discovery and biotechnology innovation
