The AquaPhage research team under the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) will work as a Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) aimed at tackling the growth\u00a0of Blue-Green Algae. Lough Neagh is very much affected by harmful algal blooms (HABs) caused primarily by cyanobacteria (blue-green algae).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a Research Assistant, assist the AquaPhage research team with the collection and processing of freshwater samples for metagenomic analysis, isolation and propagation of cyanobacteria and their bacteriophages, and testing for cyanotoxins. \u00a0Based in the School of Pharmacy and\/or the School of Biological Sciences and the research assistant will work under the supervision of Dr Timofey Skvortsov (School of Pharmacy). This is an interdisciplinary research project that requires a strong understanding of freshwater ecology, phage biology.
