Assist the AquaPhage research team as a Research Assistant to work on metagenomic analysis, isolation and propagation of cyanobacteria and their bacteriophages, and testing for cyanotoxins. The AquaPhage research team under the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) will work as part of Small Business Research Initiative (SBRI) aimed at tackling the growth of Blue-Green Algae in Lough Neagh. Lough Neagh is increasingly affected by harmful algal blooms (HABs) caused primarily by cyanobacteria. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Based in the School of Pharmacy and\/or the School of Biological Sciences, the research assistant will work under the supervision of Dr Timofey Skvortsov (School of Pharmacy), focusing on the collection and processing of freshwater samples and advancing the understanding of cyanobacterial blooms, and positively contribute to the Lough Neagh remediation efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
