In this role, the candidate will design and implement automated bioinformatics pipelines that analyze protein\u2013protein and protein\u2013ligand interactions at scale, moving beyond sequence identity to structure-based clustering and protein\u2013protein coupling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The bioinformatician will play a critical role in enabling data-driven predictions of phage host range and resistance, directly supporting the development of next-generation phage therapies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Responsibilities:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Design, build, and maintain robust bioinformatics pipelines using Nextflow<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Automate structural prediction and clustering across thousands of phage and bacterial genomes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Implement, benchmark, and optimize structure-based clustering algorithms<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Organize phage receptor-binding proteins (RBPs) and bacterial membrane proteins into functional families<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Scale and benchmark state-of-the-art structural prediction tools<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop modules to detect and classify non-protein bacterial surface markers, specifically lipopolysaccharides (LPS)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Build logic and statistical models linking RBP structural clusters with bacterial surface profiles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Predict phage host range, resistance mechanisms, and automate protein docking workflows.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Skills Required<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hands-on experience with protein structure prediction and clustering tools such as AlphaFold, ESMFold, Foldseek, and TM-align<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experience automating docking workflows (e.g., HADDOCK, Chai-1)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong scripting skills for biological and structural data analysis using Biopython, Pandas, and Bio.PDB.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Proven experience building and scaling bioinformatics pipelines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For more phage-related job opportunities, click <a href=\"https:\/\/jobs.thephage.xyz\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"here \">here <\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Bioinformatics Team at Phagos is looking for a Bioinformatics Engineer to lead and scale their high-throughput structural genomics capabilities.
