The work involves manufacturing and purification of bacteriophages using scalable manufacturing platforms, using\u00a0bioreactors and downstream purification using membrane and chromatography process technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this project, the selected candidate will conduct extensive testing of phage nebulization and assess dose delivery in an in vitro lung-simulator model to develop phage therapeutics for infections in cystic fibrosis patients. The candidate project will also work with a commercial industrial partner. The project is led by Professor Danish J Malik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Responsibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Development of phage bioprocessing and test nebulization of phage formulations using a next generation impactor and breathing simulator model.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Experimental work on the production of bacteriophage therapeutics including their purification and enumeration.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To implement SOPs for phage manufacture and nebulization testing.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To formulate and implement detailed plans for the project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Present outcomes to the investigators and sponsors.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To assist in the development of research proposals and grant applications for follow-on project funding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qualifications and Skills Required<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Experience in microbiology techniques and working in a microbiology lab<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aseptic technique and handling of microorganisms at BSL2<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Honours degree in a Science or Engineering subject or a PhD in a Science or Engineering subjects.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Knowledge of upstream bioprocesses and culturing microbial systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For more phage-related research positions, check <a href=\"https:\/\/thephage.xyz\/jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"here\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This job post was originally curated by <a href=\"https:\/\/thephage.xyz\/jobs\">www.thephage.xyz\/jobs<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An exciting Research Associate opportunity is open to develop new bacteriophage-based therapeutics for the treatment of antibiotic-resistant infections at Loughborough University.
