{"id":9388,"date":"2026-08-24T13:07:02","date_gmt":"2026-08-24T13:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thephage.xyz\/jobs\/?post_type=job&#038;p=9388"},"modified":"2026-08-24T13:07:06","modified_gmt":"2026-08-24T13:07:06","slug":"research-associate-in-bacteriophage-endolysins-at-university-of-leicester","status":"publish","type":"job","link":"https:\/\/thephage.xyz\/jobs\/jobs\/research-associate-in-bacteriophage-endolysins-at-university-of-leicester\/","title":{"rendered":"Research Associate in Bacteriophage Endolysins at  University of Leicester"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The University of Leicester is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate in Microbiology to join its Department of Microbiology and Infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The successful candidate will investigate bacteriophage-encoded endolysins, with a particular focus on endolysins found in <em>Staphylococcus<\/em> phages that encode two distinct endolysins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project will explore the structural and functional relationships between these enzymes, contributing to a deeper understanding of bacteriophage biology and the development of novel antimicrobial approaches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Responsibilities<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Research Associate will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Design and conduct molecular, microbiological and biochemical experiments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Investigate bacteriophage-encoded endolysins and their biological functions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Perform recombinant protein expression and purification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Conduct molecular cloning and enzyme characterisation.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Study bacterial systems, including <em>Staphylococcus<\/em> species where relevant.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyse, interpret and communicate experimental data.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to research publications and conference presentations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop research collaborations within the University and with external partners.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Work independently while contributing effectively to a multidisciplinary research team.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support the mentoring and development of students and junior researchers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contribute to an inclusive, collaborative and impactful research environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Qualifications &amp;
