Memorial Community Health, Inc. is seeking a qualified Medical Technologist (MT) to join its hospital laboratory team in Aurora, Nebraska.

The Medical Technologist will work across multiple laboratory disciplines, including Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Serology, Microbiology, Blood Bank, Urinalysis and Phlebotomy.

The role involves performing laboratory testing, specimen collection and preparation, quality control activities, equipment maintenance and laboratory documentation while maintaining compliance with applicable healthcare and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

The Medical Technologist will be responsible for:

  • Performing laboratory testing according to established procedures and protocols.
  • Working across multiple laboratory disciplines, including: Hematology, Clinical Chemistry, Immunoassay, Arterial Blood Gases, Urinalysis, Hemostasis, Transfusion Services, Serology, Molecular Diagnostics, Phlebotomy
  • Conducting chemical analysis of blood, urine, stool and other body fluids to identify normal and abnormal components.
  • Performing specimen collection through venipuncture, capillary or finger stick, heel puncture and radial arterial blood collection.
  • Preparing patient specimens for laboratory testing.
  • Participating in continuous quality control and quality assurance activities.
  • Monitoring laboratory quality programs to help ensure accurate and reliable test results.
  • Performing equipment and instrument maintenance according to established protocols.
  • Monitoring laboratory supplies and maintaining adequate inventory levels.
  • Maintaining a clean, organized and safe laboratory environment.
  • Preparing and maintaining laboratory documentation and records.
  • Responding to emergencies and providing treatment as required within the Medical Technologist’s scope of practice.
  • Promoting patient and staff safety throughout laboratory operations.
  • Maintaining patient and organizational confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Following applicable federal and state regulations, hospital policies, safety requirements and infection-control procedures.
  • Complying with regulatory requirements applicable to Critical Access Hospitals and healthcare laboratory operations.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills Required

Candidates should meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or an equivalent field.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Technologist, CLS, MLS or equivalent program.
  • Previous experience with laboratory equipment and an understanding of its proper use and limitations.
  • Ability to work across multiple laboratory disciplines.
  • Willingness and ability to cross-train in clinic and satellite laboratory locations.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of:
  • Clinical laboratory testing
  • Laboratory quality control and quality assurance
  • Laboratory equipment maintenance
  • Specimen collection and processing
  • Healthcare safety and infection control
  • HIPAA and patient confidentiality
