AQ BioTech is seeking a highly motivated Application Scientist – Biosensors to join their interdisciplinary research team in Turku, Finland. This is a permanent, full-time, on-site position focused on developing and validating innovative phage-based biosensor technologies for the early detection of severe diseases using non-invasive clinical samples such as saliva and urine.

The Application Specialist will work at the intersection of microbiology, biotechnology, and diagnostics, contributing directly to next-generation biosensors targeting biomarkers associated with cancers, infectious diseases, and other critical health conditions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct research, experiments, and validations using the company’s phage-biosensor platform
  • Design and develop biosensors based on engineered phage constructs
  • Perform preparation and analysis of non-invasive and clinical samples (saliva, urine, blood)
  • Develop and optimize in-vitro phage evolution processes
  • Analyze bioassays and validate results using complementary traditional diagnostic methods
  • Collaborate with external partners and clinical collaborators
  • Transfer methods and protocols effectively between laboratories

Required Qualifications

  • M.Sc. degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Systems Biology, or a related discipline
  • Strong background in microbiology and biological assay development
  • Hands-on experience with preparation and measurement of clinical or biological samples
  • Ability to transfer and adapt laboratory protocols across different environments
  • Understanding of biomarkers and their applications in medical diagnostics

Required Skills

  • Interest in disease biology, including cancers, infectious diseases, and neurological disorders
  • Ability to adopt new methods, technologies, and measurement devices efficiently
  • Experience in project management or coordinating research activities
