Research Associate (Phage Proteins)
The University of Leicester, a leading UK research institution, is offering an opportunity for a Research Associate to contribute to cutting-edge studies on bacteriophage proteins and their therapeutic applications.
About the Role
The selected candidate will work within the Division of Microbiology and Infection, supporting research focused on the structure and function of novel phage proteins. The role involves contributing to experimental strategy, advancing research objectives, and generating high-quality data to support ongoing projects.
Key contributions include:
- Supporting the design and execution of protein-focused experiments
- Driving research progress in phage protein characterization
- Analysing and interpreting experimental datasets
- Contributing to publications, grant writing, and scientific dissemination
- Presenting findings at conferences and academic forums
- Engaging in collaborative research within and beyond the institution
- Participating in academic and outreach activities
Qualifications & Skills Required
- PhD in Biochemistry, Structural Biology, Chemical Biology, or a related field
- Postdoctoral experience in protein or structural biology research
- Strong expertise in:
- Protein expression, purification, and characterization
- Molecular cloning techniques
- Analytical methods (SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, enzyme assays, kinetics)
- Experience with structural techniques such as:
- X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-electron microscopy
- Demonstrated record of scientific output (publications, reports)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Effective scientific communication skills
Desirable:
- Experience supervising students
- Bioinformatics or statistical analysis skills
- Experience in collaborative or multi-institutional research environments
